Arles 7.3 beta 7 video question (bug)
Hi, Jan... I have updated to the last beta and I have one problem: videos doesnīt work. I have tried to roll back to a previous beta but 'the pages are not found" so I canīt see if itīs a bug in this beta.
Could you try to investigate?
The windows media player say "stopped". I open the video files in a new window (popup)

Hi informativos,
I just double checked popups with embedded movies and it work for me. Movie support is one of the things that has been greatly improved, which means that I could have added a bug too. Could you provide me link with an example of your problem? You can also send it to info@digitaldutch.com if you prefer.

http://www.informativos.net/Noticia.aspx?noticia=49235
I have tried in a couple of PCīs and it works in one, but not in the other (XP SP2)
Other videos works.....
More info:
In this other new:
http://www.informativos.net/Noticia.aspx?noticia=49234
The first video doesnīt work for me, but yes the rest (this is courious as all the galley was created with arles, videos are in the same directory, and so on...)
This two news were created using last Arles update (with older news -mean before this update- evrything goes fine)
I know that is the worst scenary.... when something works once and not others. Sorry...

I tried both of your pages and video links in Windows Vista, XP fully updated, brand new XP install without updates, and Windows 98. The movie you have posted works on up to date windows versions with Windows Mediaplayer 11, 9.
In Windows 98 with Windows Mediaplayer 8 there sometimes is a problem and I have to stop and start the movie to watch it. I get the impressions that this is not due to the webpage, but caused by a bug in older mediaplayer versions which do not like the format of your movie (wmv) which also seems to contain copyright information.
What did change is that Arles now embeds the mediaplayer 7 or higher instead of version 6 which is really really old. See also:

It means that the embedded player does not work anymore on Windows 95 or NT but that looked acceptable to me. Did you try these exact same movies in webpages with Arles 7.2? And did they work there?

OK

Yes.... the videos are filled with info (metatags) like content/copyright/etc. but I think thatīs not a problem. My media player version is v11 as the popup 'calls' the media player in the S.O., doesnīt it?

So... who decide what player to invoque? The predefined class? the client media player (the one installed in 'my computer'? I miss in that point...

I canīt try older versions as the website doesnīt exist so I canīt download them and rollback to try... but the videos embeded with previous version (v7b5 I think) works fine for me. The problem is with the new ones created with this last beta (the ones for this two articles refered)
Perhaps the solution is to make a flash player as an optimal output solution so win and mac can see them (but not iphone by now) and to give more compatibility...
Thanks for the support!

I set up two test pages which embed your Resident Evil: Evolution movie:
This one was generated with Arles 7.2.2:
http://janderk.com/forum/2007/movie6.html
And this one was generated with Arles 7.3
http://janderk.com/forum/2007/movie7.html
Both of them work in Vista and Windows XP for me. Both of them have problems in Windows 98 with Windows MediaPlayer 8. Could you please test them and let me know what works? If anyone else is looking at these pages, let me know too if they work or not.

Both work for me in my PC Station... iīm going to try them from my TabletPC.
From my Tablet, both fail... but I see the other videos in the website, except the last ones
From another PC, both work.
P.D. Iīm going to install Klite Codecs and try, but if this was the problem, there should be an error message (codec). Instead of that the problem is that the message in the media player is 'stopped'
PPD. Codecs Installed.... no changes. I dont see the videos from my portable.

Hiya Jan.
They both worked for me. Win XP Home +SP2 +all critical patches +klite codec pack.
I also habve a couple of other players installed. Divx + Flv. No Real player, hate that thing.
There did seem to be a hickup at about 40 %, but i think that is intensional as it was on the TV in the backgrounds as well.
Greets.

I have uploaded two similar test pages. Both contain the exact same code generated by Arles. The movie is a very simple avi this time:
http://janderk.com/forum/2007/movie6-avi.html
http://janderk.com/forum/2007/movie7-avi.html
This works for me on any computer I try. If it does for you too then the reason your movie does not play is due to its format. It could well be a bug in the Windows Mediaplayer. What Arles does when embedding a movie is create a Windows Mediaplayer object which basicly tells the computer of the visitor of that page to play the movie using the Windows MediaPlayer. If that fails then there is not much Arles can do about it.

It looks like the problem is caused by the Windows Mediaplayer on that computer. And not by a recent change in the HTML code generated by Arles. Adding embedded Quicktime and flash support is planned and should hopefully help in making the embedded movies run on more platforms.
I also changed the last two links with yet another movie. A simple avi this time.

What browser are you using? And what happens if you download the movie and play it on your local computer in the Windows Mediaplayer?
